Bayfront Health Port Charlotte is Shining Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Offering Mammogram Screening Specials All Month Long

According to, one in eight women—roughly 12%—will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, and this year alone, more than 268,000 women and 2,600 men are estimated to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the U.S. To raise awareness and encourage more individuals to take action for their breast health, Bayfront Health Port Charlotte is lighting their building and landscape pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month for the entire month of October. They are also offering a digital mammogram screening for only $75. And, the Bayfront Health Medical Group OB/GYN team: Jennifer D’Abarno, M.D., Stephanie Finley, D.O., Hernán Fuentes, M.D., Ruben Guzman, M.D., Renee Schroeder, APRN, Dana Patterson, APRN, and Kelly Weaver, APRN, want to all stress the importance of mammograms and early detection.

“Early detection saves lives, offering a cure for breast cancer and less invasive surgical treatment options,” said Stephanie Finley, D.O., board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist. “The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommend women start mammogram screening at age 40 years, with annual screenings beginning at 45 years. Women with a family history of breast cancer may be at higher risk and may benefit from starting earlier. After age 75, women should discuss with their physician about decreasing or discontinuing mammogram screenings.”

Men—although rare—can also get breast cancer. Since men account for less than one percent of all breast cancer cases in the U.S., they are not routinely screened. However, men may be at higher risk due to a strong family history of breast cancer, in which screening may increase their chances for early detection. “If you have concerns about your risk of breast cancer, have symptoms or changes in your breasts, you should speak with your healthcare provider,” adds Hernán Fuentes, M.D., board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist. “Together you can determine what screening schedule is right for you.” Bayfront Health Port Charlotte offers mammography screenings at their Outpatient Diagnostic Services Center, located on campus at 2500 Harbor Blvd. Mammography appointments are available Monday – Friday as early as 9:00 a.m. To learn more about Bayfront Health’s $75 screening special and to schedule your mammogram, call 941-766-4321 or visit If you need to find a healthcare provider, start by visiting

For a list of risk factors and American Cancer Society recommendations, visit Appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis. An order from a physician or qualified healthcare provider is required. All mammogram reports will be sent to the physician/provider, and the patient is responsible for follow-up. Check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage for a screening mammogram. If you do not have insurance, options may be available to help with the cost. Visit, or call 941-766-4321. The price of $75 includes both the hospital and radiologist fees with MDsave voucher.

Experience a guided yoga and meditation journey with the sounds and vibrations of Tibetan Singing Bowls, the Didgeridoo, and the Shakuhachi bamboo flute. Often referred to as “Zen Flute,” the Shakuhachi is a pure mindfulness tool and has been used for centuries to guide mindful contemplation. When played with proper intention, each instrument takes the listener on a journey that clears the mind and allows for pure intention and insight to arise. For more information, call 941-505-YOGA (9642), email, visit our website or see our Facebook page,

Sea Grape Gallery’s Artists of Month for October 2019

From October 3 to November 7, 2019 Sea Grape Gallery will be featuring two of their artists, Keith Johnson, watercolor artist, and Renee Farr, glass artist.  Keith Johnson had a successful photography business in Minnesota for many years before moving to Florida where he decided to shift his artistic abilities from photography to watercolor painting. His paintings are representative but impressionistic. Recently Keith does many of his paintings plein air which he truly enjoys doing in the morning hours. As Keith explains, “I paint watercolors because I like the way water and paint blend to depict images on paper whether it is a spot of light on a building or a fusion of color in a shadow or a brushstroke of wet into wet color”. Keith’s paintings are in collections throughout the country.  Renee Farr grew up in Illinois and lived in Germany for several years before settling in Florida. Always having had an obsession with glass, she enjoyed designing jewelry. At one point, she decided to add actual glass components to her jewelry. She is a member of several local non-profit groups that help promote the arts through scholarships, workshops and events. Many of Keith’s wonderful watercolor paintings and Renee’s beautiful glass pieces are prominently on display at the Sea Grape Gallery. In addition, more of their art and the artworks of all Sea Grape artists can be viewed at

Come visit the Gallery and its many talented award-winning artists who are on hand to welcome and assist visitors.

Sea Grape Gallery is located at 113 W. Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda and can be reached at 941-575-1718. In addition to their regular hours, the Gallery is always open until 8 p.m. during downtown Punta Gorda’s “Third Thursday Wine Walk”.

Sea Grape Gallery Announces Guest Artist for October 2019 Sea Grape Gallery is proud to announce that during the month of October they will be showcasing the artwork of Laura Pommier, oil painter. Several of her artworks includes figures and settings from Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte, Florida where elements of family inform the contemplative nature of her still life paintings. Laura will be available at the Gallery during October’s “Wine Walk” to describe her art and the creative processes she uses to produce her wonderful works of art. Laura’s art can also be viewed on Sea Grape’s website at

Joke of the Week

Playing Your Age

A lady is having a bad day at the roulette tables in Vegas. She’s down to her last $50. Exasperated, she exclaims to the whole table, “What rotten luck I’ve had today! What in the world should I do now?”

A man standing next to her suggests, “I don’t know, why don’t you play your age?”

He walks away, but moments later, his attention is grabbed by a great commotion at the roulette table. Maybe she won! He rushes back to the table and pushes his way through the crowd. The lady is lying limp on the floor, with the table operator kneeling over her. The man is stunned. He asks, “What happened? Is she all right?”

The operator replies, “I don’t know. She put all her money on 36, and when 47 came up she just fainted”
