Bayfront Health Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte (Platinum)
Bayfront Health Punta Gorda Names Chief Administrative Officer
Andrea G. Thomas, FACHE, has been named Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at Bayfront Health Punta Gorda. Andrea previously served as Chief Operating Officer at St. Cloud Regional Medical Center, an 84-bed hospital in St. Cloud, FL. Under her leadership, she led an emergency department expansion project and facility renovations to enhance facility operations and better serve patients. Through attention to process improvement, turnaround times for laboratory and imaging services were reduced and more surgeries could be accommodated. And, with the successful recruitment of physicians specializing in gastroenterology, interventional cardiology, orthopedics, family medicine and internal medicine, patients were able to secure more services close to home. Andrea earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Howard University in Washington, D.C. She received two master’s degrees, one in Public Health from Florida International University in Miami, FL, and one in Business Administration-Health Services Administration from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
“We are excited to welcome Andrea to the community,” said Tim Cerullo, CEO for Bayfront Health Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will help us advance the experience we provide and the care we offer to local residents and visitors.”

Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association (Bronze)
We’re back! Last year, PGICA, 2001 Shreve St., Punta Gorda, launched its first full season of live entertainment, and this year promises to be even more exciting and diverse. First up: as part of our Local Showcase Series on November 30 will be a fun murder mystery theatrical performance, The Red Feather Investment Club, presented by the Charlotte Players, followed on December 7 by the ever-popular Goldtones making their first appearance on our stage with their special brand of DooWop. Both these events will be cabaret style and the audience are invited to bring their own food and beverages. A New Year’s celebration on January 3 brings the second in our Local Showcase, the extraordinary vocal group Bion Cantorum, presenting a concert program of classical and popular music, directed by the amazing Roy Engler with John Renfroe at the piano. Another trip down memory lane with American Pie’s “Juke Box Time Machine” concert on January 18 promises to be as fun as their Woodstock Anniversary party was last season. February 7 brings a cabaret with the Russian Duo, the critically acclaimed piano and balalaika duo that has charmed audiences throughout the U.S. On February 23, a return concert performance of the incredible StringFever: “A little bit Classical, a little bit Rock and Roll, humorous and a whole lot entertaining”. Cahal Dunne and Choir Play join us for their entertaining annual concert on March 8, an early St. Patrick’s Day salute with the lilt of Irish laughter! Our season comes to a close with two cabarets: on March 20, the final show in the Local Showcase, the talented Peace River Trio, whose familiar folk and popular songs always get an audience to sing along and a back-by-popular demand performance by William Florian, the legendary minstrel, this year highlighting the music of Neil Diamond on April 5. Tickets may be purchased at the PGICA office, online at www.PGICA.org or by calling 941-637-1655. Tickets for the season Local Showcase performances are $15; all others are $20. All events are open to the general public. Season C&C packages are available to PGICA members.

Joke of the Week
Married the Longest
At my granddaughter’s wedding reception, the DJ polled the guests to see who had been married longest. It turned out to be my husband and me. The DJ asked us, “What advice would you give to the newly married couple?”
I said, “The three most important words in a marriage are, ‘You’re probably right.'”
Everyone then looked at my husband. He said, “She’s probably right.”

Florida Gulf Coast University named best school in Florida for undergraduate entrepreneurship by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine FGCU also makes The Princeton Review’s “Best Southeastern,” “Green Colleges” lists
Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) is the top college or university in Florida for undergraduate entrepreneurship studies, according to The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine. Coming in at No. 30 out of more than 300 schools, FGCU ranked higher than entrepreneurship undergraduate programs at Florida State University, Drexel University, the University of Saint Thomas, Boston University and American University, among others. “We tried a new model with an independent School of Entrepreneurship, and it works!” said Sandra Kauanui, director of FGCU’s School of Entrepreneurship. “This ranking by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine sets us apart from other entrepreneurship schools, especially those in Florida. It’s nice to be recognized for the hard work we have all contributed to reaching our goal.” Since its founding three years ago, FGCU’s entrepreneurship program has grown exponentially. Its mission is to infuse entrepreneurial spirit throughout the university with an interdisciplinary entrepreneurship major and minor. These are the fastest-growing degrees on campus with 1,800 students currently enrolled in entrepreneurship classes. “This ranking demonstrates FGCU’s commitment to entrepreneurship,” said Jim Llorens, interim provost of FGCU. “The significant growth in the past several years shows we have created a program the region wants and needs. This recognition is the result of a commitment by Dr. Kauanui, her leadership team and the Southwest Florida community. Without that support, this would not happen.” Beyond degrees, FGCU’s School of Entrepreneurship is home to the highly successful Runway Program, which helps students develop a business model and a viable product while earning their degree. Other features include the Mentor Program, through which faculty and outside business experts offer guidance and advice, and the Faculty Fellows Program, which integrates entrepreneurship into academic departments across campus. Additionally, the School of Entrepreneurship, in partnership with Veterans Florida, helps U.S. military veterans develop their business plans and obtain seed funding. “We pride ourselves on setting our goals high and achieving them. Each faculty member we have hired has placed students first in their work. We listen to our students and take their feedback and incorporate it into our program. That approach has made all the difference for the School of Entrepreneurship,” Kauanui added. The ranking comes at an important time for FGCU. The university is raising money to build the new Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, which will house the School of Entrepreneurship, the Small Business Development Center and the Regional Economic Research Institute. The 27,000-square-foot facility will have a business incubator, flexible meeting rooms and expanded faculty and office space. It will be a central location for advancing the culture of entrepreneurship, business development and market analysis that are essential to growing Southwest Florida’s economy.
In addition to its No. 30 placement in the “Top 50 Undergraduate Schools for Entrepreneurship Studies for 2020” ranking, FGCU is listed in The Princeton Review’s “2020 Best Colleges: Southeastern” list. The university is also one of 413 “green colleges” featured in The Princeton Review’s “Guide to Green Colleges: 2019 Edition.” Colleges and universities in the guide have “strong commitments to green practices and programs,” according to a release from The Princeton Review. The Princeton Review revealed the entrepreneurship ranking lists for 2020 on https://princetonreview.com/entrepreneur. Entrepreneur magazine posted the ranking lists on https://entrepreneur.com/topcolleges. The magazine will publish a feature article on the rankings in its December issue.
